A. Most hire companies operate a policy that states: Regardless of who may be at fault, your hire is considered terminated in these circumstances, and if you wish to continue to your destination you will need to re-hire another vehicle at further cost.
Q. Is there any alternative to the above?
A. Yes, to avoid the traumas that you will undoubtedly incur when involved in this kind of unfortunate situation, we have come up with a totally unique Driver Accident Protection Package that provides,
[1] Continuity of your journey via a replacement vehicle at no additional hire cost, along with paying for any reasonable overnight board and lodging costs if we cannot get the replacement vehicle to you within 24 hours. Whenever possible we will provide a similar vehicle but due to daily availability factors we cannot always guarantee a like for like replacement.
Please remember Australia is a vast continent and your accident may occur in a non-metropolitan area, so it may not always be possible to get a replacement vehicle to you the same day.
[2] If for any reason we cannot get a replacement vehicle to you and you have an appointment to keep, we will upon receipt, reimburse any train-bus fares or hire costs of a similar vehicle, from a local hire company, to enable you to get to your destination or our nearest depot, where you can collect another vehicle to continue your journey.

Q. How are repair costs assessed and processed?
A. (1) Accidents involving third parties: In the event of an accident involving damage to third party vehicles or property, the respective insurance companies involved will determine driver liability. However, regardless of who is to blame your credit card will be immediately debited for the standard accident liability sum shown on your rental contract.
When an accident involves an alleged ”at fault third party” and the repair costs are estimated to fall within the contract accident liability sum value, upon completion of an accident claims form, the company will issue a demand notice to the third party that we hold them responsible for full payment of the repairs to the hired vehicle along with demurrage and administration costs thereof, however the company will not enter into legal proceedings to effect such recovery.
In the event that we are unable to get settlement from the third party you will be informed and have the opportunity to pursue the claim by any means you deem necessary to affect financial re-imbursement of the excess sum debited from your credit card.
A. (2) Single accidents where no third party is involved or traceable:
Where no third party is involved or is traceable and no breach of the rental contract terms has occurred, your credit card will be immediately debited for the full amount of the single accident liability sum until the company can determine full repair costs to the hire vehicle plus any demurrage and administration fees applicable.
In the case of major vehicle damage this process may take a couple of weeks to complete. Minor repairs to the hire vehicle, can usually be dealt with within a day or two of obtaining an estimate for repair.
If a breach of the contract terms is involved, the company maintains the right to take additional payment in excess of the single or standard accident liability sum shown on your contract.
For example, negligently submersing a vehicle in deep water may cause damage well in excess of your Single Accident Liability.
Unless a firm estimate of costs can be made at the time of vehicle return you will be advised by the company in writing of the repair costs, demurrage-administration fees etc and will be issued with an invoice detailing the final value shown.
